Goldendoodle Litterbox Training
Litter box training Goldendoodles may seem like an unusual idea, but it can actually be a very practical and effective way to teach your puppy where they should go potty. In fact, many breeders use this method to instill good habits in their puppies from a very young age. Not only does it help keep your home clean and free of accidents, but it can also be a great option for those who live in apartments or other small spaces.
So, how exactly do you litter box train a Goldendoodle?
The process is actually quite simple. Breeders often use long, narrow plastic bins that are similar to rubber-made totes that can fit under a bed for storage. A thin layer of pine pellets made for horse stalls is then added to cover the bottom of the pan. These pellets can be purchased at Tractor Supply Stores or Country Max.
When the puppies urinate on the pellets, they turn to powder, which is easily scooped out as needed. The stool is simply picked up with a plastic bag, tied shut, and discarded. This not only keeps the litter box clean but also helps to prevent any unpleasant odors from developing in your home.
Indoor to Outdoor Training
One of the great things about litter box training is that it can be used as a temporary tool to help transition your puppy to outdoor potty training. In fact, once your Goldendoodle is crate trained and around 8 weeks old, they are usually ready to start going outside. However, you can still use the litter box as a helpful step in the process. For example, you can place a box near the door you will be using to take your puppy outside. This will help your puppy to associate that particular spot with going potty and will make the transition to outdoor training much smoother.
Another helpful tip is to place a few pellets outside in the area where you want your puppy to go potty. This can be especially useful during the first week or so of training. By doing this, your puppy will begin to recognize the scent of the pellets and associate it with going potty. This can help to encourage them to go in the right spot and avoid any accidents inside your home.
Overall, litter box training Goldendoodles can be a great option for those who want to instill good habits in their puppies from a young age. It is a simple and effective way to keep your home clean and free of accidents, while also teaching your puppy where they should go potty. Whether you live in an apartment in the city or a spacious home in the suburbs, litter box training can be a helpful tool in your potty training arsenal. So, give it a try and see how it works for you and your furry friend!
