Getting to Ocho Rios, Jamaica
To reach Ocho Rios, Jamaica for your villa vacation the best airport to fly into is Montego Bay Sangster International Airport. The airport sits on Jamaica’s northwest coast making it a gateway to the best tourist areas of the island. It is a reasonable one-and-a-half-hour drive from the airport to Ocho Rios. It is also possible to fly into Kingston Norman Manley International Airport, which is just over two-hours away from Ocho Rios.
Airlines
Montego Bay airport is served by a wide variety of international airlines. Providing direct flights between Jamaica and the United States are United, Delta, jetBlue, US Airways, and American Airlines. You can get a direct flight to Jamaica from dozens of US cities, including Miami, Orlando, Houston, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington DC, Chicago, Boston, New York, Memphis, St. Louis, and Philadelphia. Many of these US cities are hubs that will easily connect you with the western United States. You can also find flights to Montego Bay from Canada’s main cities, including Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary. If you’re coming from Europe, you will find flights with British Airways, Air Berlin, Thomson Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Thomas Cook. The airport is quite busy with many flights throughout the day.
Even though Kingston’s airport is further away from Ocho Rios than Montego Bay, it is also served by several major airlines with direct routes to a number of US cities.
Transportation
Getting to and from the airport is easy. There are two official taxi companies that operate at the airport and provide transfers to and from Ocho Rios ¨C JCAL Taxi and JUTA Taxi. The taxi services run seven days a week. If you plan to take a taxi from the airport go to the Authorised Airport Taxi desk, which you will find when you come out of Customs.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can rent a car. All of the major car rental companies are represented at the airport, including Hertz, Avis, and Thrifty. There is also Island Car Rental, a local company. It is best to book a car rental in advance to get the best prices and to ensure there’s a car available when you arrive.
The most comfortable way to travel is by hiring a private driver. Vehicles of varying sizes can be booked to suit the size of your group. Guests of Jamaica Ocean View Villa are provided with a private driver that will pick them up and drop them off at the airport. With the guest driver, you don’t have to worry about incurring extra charges if your flight is delayed. The driver will wait for you as long as necessary.
The most economical way to travel between the airport and Ocho Rios is by using an airport shuttle. Shuttles are large, comfortable coaches, but since they’re shared with a larger number of people, you may have to wait at the airport for other passengers to arrive.
