Helpful Packing Tips For Your Jamaica Vacation|Jamaica Villa

Jamaica Vacation Packing Tips

Packing for a vacation can always be difficult, especially now that many airlines have very strict luggage allowances. You want to make sure you have enough for your whole trip, but also leave room for any souvenirs you buy during your trip.

One great thing about a Jamaica villa rental is that you’ll be able to do laundry, so you won’t need to pack as many clothes. When packing for your trip to Jamaica, you need to consider the local weather and what activities you plan to do.

Packing for beach Vacation

Weather

Jamaica’s weather doesn’t vary much throughout the year temperature-wise. The climate is tropical with temperatures averaging between 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest months are July and August, while February is the ‘coolest’. Late fall into December tends to get the most rain, along with May. However, there can be tropical showers at any time of year. Jamaica’s inland mountains can get quite chilly with temperatures dropping to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Clothes

Most Jamaica vacations take place along the coast where temperatures tend to be the warmest. It can also get quite humid, so lightweight clothes are essential to staying dry and comfortable. Cotton t-shirts are great for the whole family.

They are easy to pack and easy to fit in a few to ensure you have enough for changes during the day, which you will find necessary in the humid heat.

Polo shirts are great for men who want something smart, casual for eating out. Cotton shorts are great for activities or the beach, while khaki shorts or capri pants are good and comfortable when you need something a little smarter looking. Lightweight sundresses are a must for girls and women, while men should bring a pair of long pants that aren’t jeans.

Footwear

You’ll need to pack a few different types of shoes when visiting Jamaica. One essential type is flip flops that you can easily slip on and off when hanging out around the pool or at the beach.

If you plan to visit Dunn’s River Falls then it’s a good idea to pack a pair of water shoes, so you can safely climb to the top. For sporting activities, such as hiking, you’ll want to bring a good pair of walking shoes and wear socks designed for hiking to ensure you don’t get blisters.

Finally, you’ll want to bring a pair of dressy shoes for when you head out at night, but it’s a good idea to avoid really high heels, as walking can get slippery after a shower.

Tropical Essentials

There are a couple of things that are essential for your trip ¨C sunscreen and bug spray. The sun in Jamaica is probably a lot stronger than you’re used to, putting you more risk for sunburn.

It’s a good idea to pack plenty of sunscreens and to include a higher SPF than you usually use. While you will be able to buy sunscreen in Jamaica, you’ll usually be able to find it at home at a cheaper price. Make sure you also pack an SPF lip balm to protect your lips.

You will find that you’re applying sunscreen more often, so make sure to pack plenty of it. Other sun-protective essentials are sunglasses and a hat, ideally with a wide rim.

Despite all your efforts in protecting your skin, you still may end up with a sunburn. To help soothe any sensitive skin bring some after-sun lotion or aloe vera to help cool and soothe burnt skin.

Jamaica is tropical, which means no matter how hard you try to avoid them; you will encounter insects, particularity mosquitoes. Pack a good insect repellent and don’t forget to use it, especially at dusk when mosquitoes are the most active. In addition to repellent pack something to put on any bug bites to help reduce itching.

Swimwear

You won’t want to forget to bring your swimsuit to Jamaica. However, don’t pack just one. In fact, it is best that each person packs at least two swimsuits.

The humidity means that it may take time for your suit to dry out and putting on a damp, cold suit isn’t pleasant. Luckily swimwear is light and super easy to squeeze into the tiniest corner of your luggage.

Don’t Forget

Don’t forget to put any essential medication in your hand luggage. In the unlikely event that your checked bag gets lost, you don’t want to be stuck without it.

Also, remember to keep all your travel documents together in your carry-on bag, along with any other essential items. It’s possible you could run into delays, so bring a few small items, such as an iPod, book, or tablet to keep you and the family entertained.
